lyrics

Dear America,
I've been meaning to write this for a while
Thought the conversation might start again after June 17th
It did, but it seems 50% of you are still convinced
That your right to bear arms is a freedom worth keeping
Regardless of the growing death toll since

Dear America,
I’ve heard that some of you don't have guns but think it's a God given right
To be able to go buy a gun at Walmart on a Saturday night
Don't believe me? (Walmart.com/browse/sportsoutdoors/firearms)

I'm praying, we can figure this out
God knows, we can live without
This fear, over our lives

Dear America,
Did a bit of field work n got some opinion
From the self defence view slash territorial dominion
The argument goes, you’re all about self worth
For when you’re held at gun point
You’ll run*, go find it and ideally shoot first

Dear America
Checked out the NRA's website early this morning
Quick note Good way to stay awake when sleep gets boring
Homepage article read '90% of shooting is mental'
It seems the NRA and I do agree on one thing

Dear America
I am genuinely concerned about this situation.
Fear breeds more fear and its fuelling your nation
I fear your police when I visit
And I fear for your police as they try to protect it

Dear America
I've visited on July 4th
Stood by my American wife, sang your strange song
And I think we can agree
200 years on
That we British don't pose a threat
To your lives or your homes

Dear America,
I’ll never be an american
And I won’t even pretend to know what it’s like to grow up holding a gun
I grew up learning to ride a bike (!)
My bicycle gave me freedom (got me from A->B)
Yes, guns have helped bring freedom,
but as a means to an end
not so we could just wield them freely

Dear America,
We’re all afraid of losing what we have
Please think this over,
don't plead the fifth.
apathy to this situation can't be allowed to exist
We mourn at your school shootings from across the sea
And pray for the day we celebrate a gun amnesty
give up your right to bear arms and write a new chapter in your country’s book
In Hope I Trust,
Dan Crook
